How to get over $300 in dentistry for about $20

How to over $300 in dentistry for about $20 bucks

When you are going to the dentist for treatment, some of the upfront cost can be avoided by using alternatives.

In order for you to receive the care you need, you will have to have x-rays.

  • A single x-ray runs about $20,
  • a set of bitewings (4 molar view) about $55,
  • a full mouth x-ray about $160 and
  • a panoramic x-ray $150.

A dental exam is about $65, but some office have a visit fee of about $150 that covers the exam. If your gums are very healthy, a cleaning will cost about $60. However, if you require periodontal treatment, the cost is significantly higher, at about $1300 for full treatment. A dentist office charges roughly $20 for fluoride treatment. All of these services are available at dental hygiene schools and unlike dental schools, they are plentiful. You can expect to pay about $20, which covers any of the above treatments. Plus, other services are likely available. You can go to the education page of the American Dental Hygienist Association and find a list of schools around the country. Many of the schools may house other programs in which provide other dental treatment.

Very affordable dentistry in SC

Since I never want my motives to be questioned as it pertains to my desire to help people, I don't usually refer to dentists or offices unless they specifically work with MPACT to meet those needs.

However, after pondering the point, I want those of you in SC (Florence) to know you have some very affordable dentistry nearby. It should be noted that this is a genuine recommendation and I am not being compensated by this office in any way. The Sexton Dental Clinic offers substantially lower fees than are customary.

Here is a link to the price list. To give you an idea of a few things that had me smiling:

  • Complete upper and lower denture (with extractions) $180
  • Exams $20
  • Simple extraction is $39/tooth ot $18/tooth with denture purchase.
  • One day crowns (caps) $500 (usually $1000)

I venture to say that those in Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina would find a trip to Florence, SC to be well worth it.

Remember, if you are having trouble getting your dental needs met, there are volunteers at  MPACT that will coach you along the way and advocate for you when necessarily.

Directions to get help

I am frequently asked how to get help for unmet dental needs. First, I would like everyone to know that this is the very reason I became involved with dentistry. I was a patient in pain with limited resources, but more significantly, I lacked education. I invite all of you to ask questions about dental care and here are a few tips for getting the care you need.

  • Contact your local community colleges to determine if they have a dental hygiene school. Dental Hygiene School's can provide many services and resources to get you back to health.
  • Locate your state's dental schools. If you have one within a reasonable distance, you can find the help you need for 50% or less than regular dental fees.
  • Contact your state's dental society. The state dental society is an organization for dentists, but can frequently give guidance to those seeking help. Some state organizations specifically provide information for those in need.
  • Other great resources for finding free and low-cost dental care are local health departments and social services.

Whatever you do, stay encouraged and keep trying. It will take perseverance, but your health is worth it.     Feel free to email any questions you have on your search.
